Is the TrueEQ an Over-the-Counter (OTC) or a Prescription aid? What is the difference?

The TrueEQ is a Prescription hearing aid. There are two main differences between Prescription and OTC hearing aids.

  1. A prescription hearing aid can assist with mild, moderate, and moderately severe hearing loss, while an OTC aid can assist with mild to moderate loss only.
  2. A prescription hearing aid like the TrueEQ is recommended and prescribed by an audiologist, and our audiologist team is available to answer your questions or provide additional recommendations should you need them. An OTC aid, on the other hand, can be bought almost anywhere and requires no prescription or recommendation from an audiologist. There is often minimal or no audiologist support after the OTC purchase.
Will your aid work for me?

Our aids are programmed and designed by doctors in order to meet the needs of most people with hearing loss. Our aids specialize in assisting people with mild to moderately severe hearing loss – we believe about 95% of the population – within 30 seconds of opening the box.

What is the best recommendation for getting started with hearing aids?

Since every person’s hearing loss is different, so is every person’s ability to rehabilitate their hearing with hearing aids. Your satisfaction with hearing aids depends on the type and degree of your hearing loss, as well as your expectations. Please be aware that no hearing aid, regardless of price and features, can restore the normal hearing of our youth.

In order to experience the best results with your new hearing aids, it is advisable to start by wearing them for a few hours at first and then gradually increase the number of hours each day. Please understand that it can take your brain about 21 days to get used to the sound and feel of your new hearing aids. Many sounds may seem too loud at first, but your brain will quickly “re-learn” these sounds so that they gradually become more comfortable. Many people will also benefit from a little support from friends and loved ones during the initial trial period.

What do you mean by “One Size Fits Most”?

All the Analog Hearing Labs models come with our AER tubing and tips as well as additional standard tubing to assist those patients who need a little extra boost. How do your hearing aids compare to custom hearing aids?

As the name implies, custom hearing aids can provide you with the most personalized specialization and accompanying personal attention to your specific and unique hearing loss requirements. However, as we all know, the greater the level of personalization, the greater the sticker price – often thousands of dollars per ear!

We cannot assist with severe and profound hearing loss. Please visit an audiologist or ENT physician in these instances.

My child has hearing loss. Can your aids help him or her?

Pediatric hearing loss is a separate specialty, as a child’s hearing health is different from that of an adult. As such, our aids CANNOT be used for children under the age of 18. They are designed for adult use only (ages 18+).

What are some of the best ways to care for my TrueEQ?

Proper cleaning, care, and maintenance are crucial to ensure the TrueEQ hearing aid continues to play a significant role in improving your quality of life. Neglecting these aspects may result in reduced functionality, or the device may stop working completely.

Here are some guidelines to help you maintain your TrueEQ hearing aid in good working condition and to make sure it can last you for many years.

Things TO DO:

  • Keep your TrueEQ in a cool, dry place. Keep the battery door open when not in use.
  • Make sure to remove the battery from the TrueEQ overnight or when you will not be using it for an extended period of time. This will help in preventing corrosion.
  • Using a dehumidifier can also be helpful in order to remove any additional potential moisture. This can collect from oils or sweat from your hair.
  • Be careful when handling your TrueEQ. Avoid dropping or stepping on it, as the shock can cause significant damage.

Things NOT TO DO:

Water and hearing aids do not mix well, so:

  • Don’t subject your TrueEQ aids to excess moisture
  • Don’t wear them in the shower
  • Don’t use them in a rainstorm
  • Don’t swim with your TrueEQs still in your ears
  • Don’t use hair spray while you are wearing them
  • Don’t wash your TrueEQ with water or other liquids. See our cleaning tips below.

Heat and hearing aids also don’t mix well, so:

  • Don’t expose your TrueEQs to excessive heat
  • Don’t use the hair dryer while wearing them
  • Don’t run them through your clothes dryer
  • Don’t leave your TrueEQs in direct sunlight for long periods of time

What is the best way to clean my TrueEQ?

We designed the TrueEQ so that you can easily clean it by yourself at home, with no need to pay extra in money or time by having to go to a hearing clinic.

Stick to a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for your TrueEQ in order to make sure that they both sound and feel like new for as long as possible.

Getting Started

With your TrueEQ in hand, make sure that you also have the following items:

  • A microfiber cloth (highly recommended) or a dry tissue
  • The enclosed cleaning tool – this will have a brush and wire on it. See illustration below.
  • NOTE: Make sure that you do NOT use a liquid (water, alcohol, other solvents) to clean the aid, as liquid may damage the aid

To Clean the TrueEQ

1. Gently but thoroughly wipe the TrueEQ aid body with the microfiber cloth or dry tissue.

This will help clean the aid of sweat and oils which can accumulate during use via skin contact.

2. Clean the microphone

Because the microphone plays such an important role in the working of the TrueEQ, it is especially important to make sure that it is clear of any debris (usually earwax). Any blockage of the microphone can impair the amplification and reduce the TrueEQ’s effectiveness

The TrueEQ has a single microphone, located near where the tubing and the hearing aid body connect. Look for a small black hole or circle to locate the microphone.

3. Clean the AER tips

Take the brush end of the cleaning tool and brush the outside of the AER tip. Make sure to brush all parts of the tip in order to remove any earwax or other debris which may have collected and resulted in a blockage. You may also use the microfiber cloth or dry tissue to thoroughly wipe / clean the outside of the AER tip.

4. Clean the tubing

In order to clean the tubing, it must first be removed from the TrueEQ aid body. Unscrew the tubing so that it is separated from the TrueEQ.

Locate the cleaning tool and ready the cleaning wire end. Insert the cleaning wire into the tubing from the BASE end of the tubing (the part that attaches to the hearing aid). After the wire is inserted into the tubing, continue threading the wire through the entire length of the tubing until it comes out the other end (where it attaches to the AER tip).

When you see the wire come out of the TIP end, wipe it down with the microfiber cloth or dry tissue to remove any earwax or debris. After wiping it down the first time, pull the cleaning wire back out of the tubing. Then repeat the procedure a few more times in order to make sure that the tubing is clean.

NOTE: Since the tip end of the tubing is the contact point between the aid and your ear canal, most earwax and debris tends to collect there. By inserting the cleaning wire from the base end of the tubing, it will push any debris OUT of the hearing tubing and clear any blockage. Do NOT insert the cleaning wire at the tip end of the tubing, as you will be pushing any debris further INTO the tubing.

How often should you clean your TrueEQ?

We recommend a daily cleaning of your hearing aid. Earwax is the number one cause of dissatisfaction with hearing aids as it can often block tubing or tips and reduce performance. Setting up a daily cleaning schedule will allow you to get the most out of your TrueEQ in terms of performance, amplification, satisfaction, and device life.

What kind of hearing aid is the TrueEQ?

The TrueEQ is what is called a “BTE” hearing aid. BTE stands for “Behind the Ear”, so named because the aid rests literally behind the user’s ear. A tube is attached to the BTE aid which conducts sound from the aid into the user’s ear. The tube is held in place in the ear by a tip which fits snugly into the user’s ear canal in order to prevent the sound from escaping. A stabilizer bar is attached to the tubing which can also provide additional support, as it rests inside the ear cavity.

How will the aid look on me when I wear it?

The TrueEQ is what is known as a Behind-the-ear (BTE) style hearing aid. This means that it rests on the back of your ear and uses thin tubing with an attached tip, which fits inside your ear canal. Whether you have large or small ears, the TrueEQ will be discreet when you are wearing it. For users with larger ears, the aid will stay hidden from the front and the side; someone may notice it looking at you from behind. For users with smaller ears, the aid may not be apparent from front or side views, but it could be more apparent from a rear view. If you wear eyeglasses, masks, or use oxygen, you will still be able to utilize those while wearing your TrueEQ.

What kind of batteries does my TrueEQ require?

The TrueEQ uses “Size 13” hearing aid zinc-air batteries. These batteries use the distinctive ORANGE color tab to differentiate them from other sizes. See below:

Why is there an adhesive tab on the battery?

The orange adhesive tab on the battery serves as a protective power seal. Because zinc-air batteries are air-activated, the adhesive tab keeps the battery in an inactive state until the tab is removed. Two things to remember about the battery:

  1. The battery begins to discharge shortly after removing the tab
  2. The battery requires approximately one minute after tab removal before the charge becomes active

Therefore, please do not remove the tab until you are ready to use the battery.

And once you remove the tab, please wait at least one minute before putting it into the aid.

If you insert the battery without waiting for the one minute, the battery may not activate.

Finally, please remember that once the adhesive tab is removed, the battery will continue to discharge power until it runs out. Putting the tab back on the battery will not stop the power drain.

How do I insert / remove the battery?

Inserting and removing the battery is quick and easy.

No tools are required, but some find the magnet on the end of the cleaning brush* helpful in holding the battery.

Installing a new battery:

  1. Remove a new battery from container
  2. Peel off the adhesive tab and wait 1 minute to allow battery to “breathe” and activate.
  3. Use finger nail to open the battery door
  4. If there’s an old battery in the compartment, follow the steps below to remove it properly.
  5. Insert the new battery, ensuring the positive (+) side is facing upwards.
  6. Close the battery door.
  7. Note: If the battery door doesn’t close easily, it is likely that the battery is inserted upside down. Remove and reinsert it with the correct orientation.

Removing the old battery:

Hold the TrueEQ with the screws facing up, and open the battery compartment.
Turn the aid upside down over your hand. The old battery should fall out of the compartment and into your hand.

* It’s also a good idea to clean your hearing aid every time you change the battery

How long will a battery usually last before I need to change it?

Under normal use conditions (10-12 hours a day), an average hearing aid battery can be expected to last approximately 10-14 days.

Where can I buy new batteries?

If you run low or run out of batteries, you can order more directly from us on our “Accessories” page without having to leave your home.

You can also sign up for our Gold Plan, where, every three months, a set of new batteries, tubes, and AER tips will be automatically mailed to your home. Enjoy the peace of mind of not having to worry about not having enough spare parts to keep your hearing aid and hearing health humming along. 

Warnings and tips
  • For best results, keep the batteries in original packaging

  • Avoid using expired, unsealed (tab is missing), or corroded batteries

  • Remove dead batteries promptly; do not leave them in the hearing aid

  • If you will not be using the aids for an extended period of time, open the battery compartment and remove the battery in order to prevent corrosion

  • WARNING: Batteries can be harmful if swallowed. Keep them away from and out of reach of children and pets. If a battery is accidentally swallowed, seek immediate medical attention, or call the National Battery Hotline at 1-800-498-8666

What should I consider when ordering?

We recommend ordering pairs of hearing aids rather than a single aid in most situations. We were born with two ears for a reason. Our brains process sound waves from both of our ears to improve sound clarity and to achieve a greater sound balance.

If you have hearing loss in both ears but are using only aid, this can lead to problems. Your brain will have to work overtime in order to process the two different incoming sound and clarity levels. This can make it more difficult to obtain a clear understanding of the sound signals your ears are receiving, and you may feel tired more rapidly as a result of the extra work your brain is performing on your behalf.

The bottom line is that you will be able to hear much better with two hearing aids, and your satisfaction with the devices will be much higher as well.

We also recommend ordering extra accessories (tips and tubing) as these are wear items and should generally be replaced every 90 days.

Are my aids covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies and Medicare do not cover the cost of hearing aids, either through direct payment or reimbursement. This is the main reason as to why so many people who need hearing aids do not purchase them.

Analog Hearing Labs understands this problem. This is why we were founded – to help those who previously couldn’t afford hearing aids to be able to finally get the high-quality hearing aids which work for them.

If you are someone who has an insurance policy which does cover hearing aids, please feel free to contact us. These policies usually work on reimbursement. You first purchase the hearing aids from us, and then you file a claim with the insurance company. We will be happy to provide you with any documentation necessary to assist you in submitting a claim.

Do you ship to Canada or other countries outside the USA?

Yes! We gladly accept orders from our neighbors to the north and around the world. Please be advised that all orders will be transacted in US dollars only. Please allow extra time for shipping as customs and/or distance may slow down your shipment. Also please note that you will be responsible for any customs duties (if levied).

What is your warranty?

Your Analog Hearing Labs hearing aid is manufactured under strict, medical-grade conditions using the highest quality parts available. However, we understand that sometimes something can still go wrong. We stand behind the quality of our products with a one year warranty that covers all potential manufacturing defects which may occur during use.

What’s covered?

As mentioned above, our warranty covers all potential manufacturing defects or problems within the one year warranty period.

What’s not covered?

Areas that would not be covered by the warranty would be

  • Intentional tampering (taking the aid apart, etc.)
  • Dropping the aid
  • Water damage
  • Pet / animal damage
  • Theft or loss
How to request a repair?

If you find that something has happened to your hearing aid, and you need assistance, please email us at and let us know your situation. Please include your:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Order number
  • Serial number(s) of the aid(s) in question

Including this information assists us in more rapidly locating you in our customer database to make sure we can provide the fastest quality service to you. The serial number of the aid is on the inside of the aid body. There is also a serial number sticker on the box in which the aids were sent to you.

Alternatively, you may also call us at either 1-888-ANALOG-2 (888-262-5462 anytime) or 313-572-4545 (during business hours) to talk with a live agent and to place your repair request.

Once your repair request has been received and processed, we will provide you with a Repair RMA number and the address to which you should send your aid(s). Please put the RMA number on the address label of the shipping package and please include a note inside outlining the concern and with the RMA also.

Please send back ONLY the body of the aid. Remove all tubing and tips from the aid, and do not include any other materials.

We recommend tracking and insurance on the package you send back to us.

Repair Process

Once we receive your package with the aid(s), we will inspect the aid(s) and repair them if possible. If the aid is not able to be repaired, then we will send a replacement aid to you. Please allow a few days for us to receive, process, and repair/replace the aid as needed. You will receive an email with tracking information on the repaired or replaced aid once it is on the way back to you.

Out of Warranty Repairs

If something happens to your aid after the one year warranty has expired, we can still assist you. You may not need to buy a brand-new aid! We can do the repair for a cost of $99.99 for one aid and $199.99 for a pair if both need attention. Please follow the same procedure as the warranty.

If a payment is required, we can send an invoice to you to pay via credit card, or you can include a check/money order with the aid(s) when you send the package to us.

“Gold Plan” - our extended warranty plus more!

We are proud to offer our “Gold Plan”, which covers ALL instances of repair to the aid(s), including theft or loss! In addition to this total coverage option, our Gold Plan also will automatically send you new tubing and tips every three months. This will help ensure the best performance for your TrueEQ aids as well as the best hearing experience for you.

The Gold Plan also provides you with discounts when you purchase a new aid. Enjoy a 25% discount on new aids and accessories while your Gold Plan is active.

As mentioned earlier, the Gold Plan also covers theft or loss. This is a one-time benefit where we will send you a FREE replacement if such an unfortunate event happens. Subsequent occurrences will incur a LOW $50 per aid replacement charge.

The Gold Plan is available at checkout when you purchase your TrueEQ. Simply click the selection box for the Gold Plan, and then click “Add to Cart”. Your Gold Plan will then be automatically attached to your hearing aid order.

The cost of the Gold Plan is $9.99 each month, billed in quarterly installments. The credit card which you used to originally make your purchase will automatically be charged.

The Gold Plan will continue to renew for as long as you wish. Should you need to update your credit card information or would like to use a different card, please contact us, and we can make the changes for you in order to enjoy uninterrupted coverage.

Return Policy


Although we strive to keep you in your aid and hope to assist you with your hearing health, we understand that sometimes things just don’t work out. For those occasions, we offer a guaranteed 45 day return period from the date of receipt.

If you feel that the aids do not work for you, please contact us anytime before the 45th day in order to request a return and to receive a full refund.

We do recommend that you try the aids for at least 21 days before requesting a return. Why is this? Decades of studies have consistently shown that it takes, on average, approximately 21 days for the brain to adjust to new sounds.

When you get a new hearing aid after perhaps years of gradual loss, you are likely hearing sounds again for the first time in many years. Your brain needs time to process and “re-learn” these sounds, so the first 21 days can be considered an adjustment period for your brain to become used to the hearing aid and its amplification. Once your brain is used to the hearing aid after 21 days, you will be able to make a more accurate assessment of whether or not the aid works for you.

After you contact us, your return request will be processed in our system, and you will be given a Return Merchandise Authorization

Return requests received after the 45 days will be ineligible for a refund.

Returns received without an RMA number (see below) will incur a 20% restocking fee.

How to request a return?

Once we receive your refund request, our team will review your request and respond within one business day.

We may ask a few more questions to clarify your concern and offer some potential solutions. If we are unable to resolve your concern with you to your satisfaction, we will provide you with a Return RMA number and the address to which you should send your aid(s). Please put the RMA number on the address label of the shipping package and please make sure everything you received with the order (aids, accessories, etc.) are included in the package.

We recommend tracking and insurance on the package you send back to us.

Receiving your refund

Once we receive your package, we will inspect the contents and verify that everything has been received. We will then process the refund within one business day of receipt. Please allow a few days for your credit card company to fully process the refund and to credit your account. You will receive an email notifying that the refund has been processed.

For check / money orders, please allow 7-14 days for your refund check to process and to be received via USPS first class mail.

When will my order ship?

If we receive your order by noon EST, your order should ship the same day (M-F, excluding holidays). Orders received after that time or on weekends/holidays will ship the next business day.

What are your shipping methods?

Our aids will ship via USPS Ground Advantage (First Class) (3-7 days) – free with your hearing aid order
If you are ordering accessories only, there is a $5.00 shipping charge.
You can also request FedEx Express (2 days) – $10.00
FedEx Overnight Express (1 day) – $25.00

Do you ship to military/APO, Puerto Rico / US Territory addresses?

Yes, we ship to all military and APO addresses, as well as to Puerto Rico, Guam, and other US territories via USPS. The same shipping prices as domestic apply: however, it may take longer to reach you.
NOTE: Express is currently unavailable for PO Boxes, Military/APO, or US Territories.

Canada / International orders

Yes, we can ship to Canada and around the world. We use FedEx International (shipping times vary). We charge $20.00 for Canadian orders and $25.00 for all other international orders.

Customs Duties

Please be aware that Canada or other international orders may be held for inspection by your country’s authorities, and a customs duty may be levied. The customer is responsible for paying all duties in order to release the package.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

For US/APO/Territory orders

Canada/International – varies, but generally 1-2 weeks

How do I track my order?

After your order is processed, it will be put into the queue to ship either the same day (before noon EST, M-F, excluding holidays) or the next business day.

After your order is shipped, a tracking number will be emailed to you at the email address you provided when you placed your order. If you don’t see your tracking number in your email, please check your spam folder to see if it went there by accident.

Once you have your tracking number, please visit or and input your tracking number there. USPS / FedEx can then provide you with tracking information as to the whereabouts of your order.

Possible Delays

Please be aware that there may sometimes be delays in the delivery of your order once it ships. The most common causes are:

  • Severe weather issues – hurricane, blizzard, ice storm, etc.
  • Incorrect or incomplete address information (usually in rural areas)
  • Customs issues (for Canada/international orders)
  • Occasional internet or system outage in USPS tracking system

Please be patient if these situations arise. Please also make sure that your address information is COMPLETE and CORRECT to minimize any potential issues.
